Calling all current students and recent graduates – we want to hear from you!

Glasgow Caledonian University’s occupational therapy programmes will be going through programme and department review in 2025 and we need your help!

As part of this process, we want to get current students and recent alumni’s view on the programme and department, so are you a current student at GCU or have you graduated from GCU recently?  We want to know what you think – what works? What needs enhanced? Read on to find out more about the process and how you can get involved.

What is programme re-accreditation?

Occupational Therapy programmes within the UK are normally re-accredited with RCOT every 5 years. During this process HCPC will also approve changes to Pre-Registration programmes (providing they meet HCPC standards). The aim of re-accreditation and re-approval is to ensure that both institutions and programmes can deliver the proposed education ensuring that graduates are safe, effective and fit to practice (HCPC, 2024). If you would like to know more about re-accreditation and re-approval have a look at the RCOT and HCPC web pages.  This programme review also applies to quality processes within GCU to ensure that programmes delivered within the university continue to meet quality assurance standards for the university.  As part of this process the Department of Occupational Therapy, Human Nutrition and Dietetics will also undergo a department wide review, known as an ELISR (Enhancement Led Internal Subject Review).

The re-accreditation and re-approval process is a great opportunity for occupational therapy Pre-Registration programmes, and the wider department, to reflect on how new programmes and department wide activities are going to prepare students for future occupational therapy practice. It is also a chance to work with stakeholders such as alumni and existing students to ask for their feedback on current programmes and to make suggestions as to how these can be improved.
